More than 635 of entries flooded World Gospel Powerhouse offices for the past two months! Judges will commence with the first leg of selection this week, going through all received entries.
Evidence shows that entries leading the pack are Best Gospel Newcomer (that normally the case every year) and Best Traditional Gospel, with 19 and 20 entries respectively.
The Best Collaboration category, also received wave of entries this year, more than it has in the previous years. This is due to the growing trend of artists working together and supporting each other’s projects. Last year, this category was won by Gospel music darlings Dumi Mkokstad and Thina Zungu with Fear Not. The World Gospel Powerhouse is in full support of this move!
Another category that has improved is the Best Song Writer. This category showcases the skill and talent of not just singers but the crafters of lyrics of a song. There’s a new generation of writers who may not be in the limelight or celebrated but create a grand platform for the singers. Previous winners in this category included Thina Zungu’s Kwanqaba Umusa and Andile Ka Majola’s Nanoma Niyangibona!
Categories that received less entries than required, will be removed from the list of 36 categories. Finalists/ Nominees in each category will be announced on 18 October 2016, in Durban, as per invitation. The categories that will be open for public voting, after nomination, will be Best Gospel Song, Best Gospel Artist, Best AmaZioni, Best Gospel Maskandi , Best Gospel TV Show, Best Gospel Community Radio Show and Best Gospel TV Show ( Commercial /PBS). The rest of the categories will be judged by the panel.
The second leg of judging will then follow for other categories, while voting lines will be opened on the night of the announcement.
